I am sick with grief. My two oldest are not taking this well. I did not sleep well, and awoke hoping that I had a nightmare. The news has reports of thousands of bodies being ferried across the river. Another report states that trucks with explosives were stopped by police. If this is correct, we are still under attack! As a police officer I would love to be able to defend my people, but here I am helpless. I will see what I can do for my fellow New Yorkers today, maybe give blood and as always pray to God!

I live in NY and got to feel the immediate impact of this terrible tragedy.

We all need to send our prayers for the victims and the family and friends of the victims. My prayer is that senseless acts like this will end.

I must say that I am proud of my fellow New Yorkers. Most of us had to walk a long way to get home and people were calm and helpful. It took me three hours to walk home.

People were asked to donate blood and there were so many volunteers that they had to be turned away.

The police, medical staff, firefighters and all others who have given their all to help need our prayers too. Tragedies like this take a tremendous toll on those who devote their lives to helping others.

We need to remain calm and support the efforts to bring the guilty parties to justice.

It is sad that this is the kind of society that children have to grow up in.

Let's all do our best to change this society to enable our children to have some hope for the future.
